Lifetime ban in NI on gay men donating blood to be lifted

We welcome the new Health Minister’s decision to lift this lifetime ban. This ban has only perpetuated inequality, which in turn, has done nothing to reduce the stigma that is attached to men who have sex with men and who want to donate blood for the good of others. As the Minister has outlined, the risk of contracting HIV is significantly lower with a one year deferral in place and we now are on a level playing field with the rest of the UK.
